During theanalogue's recent jaunt to Athens, we were treated to a special private view at the Breeder Gallery in a distinctly Dalstony part of town called Metaxourgeio, which Wallpaper* magazine ominously describes as 'up-and-coming'. Uh-oh....
All the same, the gallery is a fantastic space designed by Aris Zampikos GR405 Architects (no sign of a web page, sorry!) albeit with some traditional Greek, vertigo inducing, disregard for health and safety. It incorporates some endearingly intimate spaces hinged around the showpiece concrete and steel staircase. In an interesting counterpoint to the Acropolis Museum, this building is equally wobbly in construction quality, but because the big idea filters down to enjoyable and legible spatial experiences, it kind of doesn't matter. Particular love goes out to whoever picked the furniture, the Konstantin Grcic chairs were about as on-message as you could get.
Unfortunately we were encouraged not to take photos, so why not check out this article for more info and pics.
We had fun anyway, despite some unexpectedly pornographic content from the exhibition. If you're in that part of the world anytime soon, why not pop in.
