Those of you following the twitter feed will be slightly disappointed I'm sure, that there was no post to go with my insider scoop on the Architects Journal Small Projects winner. Well, it's pretty much old news now, but all the same, here's Haworth Tompkins winning Belvedere project.
For my money, this is exactly what the AJ competition should be all about, not spending a fortune and two years design work on the bestest greenhouse or desk, but bringing innovative thinking to create a real jewel on what could have been an aside. Using ship building techniques, the envelope of this building was manufactured offsite and craned into place so as to preserve the original structure and to get the best value out of the materials involved.
